My team of pixies are fans of all the events that happen at the delightful Clifton Nurseries in Maida Vale. Not only are all the staff totally charming, helpful and happy, but they also stock a little of everything you would ever need to give to either a total gardening novice, or a real professional. They have a well stocked selection of landscape, botanical and ‘how to’ books, every seed you could ever want, incredible orchids and indoor plants, stylish furniture, kids gardening kits, outdoor plants, pots and containers in every shape and size, tools, firewood, ornaments, lighting, lanterns, mugs, compost, feed, go away cat gel …need I go on.
As well as being an Aladdin’s Cave for the gardener, they also run really informal, interesting and charming events for adults and kids. The company is run by the totally wonderful Matthew Wilson, the well-respected garden designer, writer, radio (Radio 4 : Gardeners Question Time) and television broadcaster and lecturer. His particular areas of horticultural interest include environmentally sensitive gardening, wildlife and landscapes, and we have been to a couple of his talks, and they are engaging, funny and informative followed by a cuppa and cake. Surely no better way for any gardening enthusiast to spend an hour of their lives ?
They have just launched their new list of events on their website, and we are already booked in for their ‘gardening club for kids’ planting seeds workshop on March 8th with Paul Todd which includes seeds, compost and pots (book here). We are quite drawn to another talk by Matthew which is billed as ‘… an intimate talk on making a garden’ on Monday 18th March at 7pm ( £12 – Includes drinks and nibbles).
We have also heard on from the Clifton hummingbird, that there is a new cafe opening around Easter-time, and that there are a whole host of new events and drop-in crafts planned for the Spring/ Summer, so keep your Creative Bus Stop affair going, and you will be the first to know about what is next from the Green fingered Clifton family. xo
