Although Art 13 London, which is being held at Olympia Grand Hall, and is free for kids, (£11 for adults) is definitely deemed to be more of a grown-up affair, and not on our usual weekend hit list, we are quite intrigued by it, as it is billed to be a family friendly event with their photography based family trail designed in partnership with their education partner (Zabludowicz Collection).
We hear that there will be live sound and performance art throughout the Fair, and there is an emphasis on providing an opportunity for a wide variety of visitors – including children and young people – to come discover and interact with great modern and contemporary art that is of institution-level quality from all over the world. With these chilling winds around, I’m pretty tempted to spend an hour or two surrounded by world-class art, charming people, and dream up my ‘Provence holiday house’ art collection, or my ‘chalet art collection’, and whilst I’m there the one for my ‘beach house’ collection (in Costa Rica of course)! PS. the bookshop will be worth a visit too, as it is run by The Saatchi Gallery Store, and they know what they are doing when they buy in their books … they have it all. xo
We also like that they have invited 18 ‘young’ galleries (which are under 6-years of age from across the globe), and that they have attracted some heavyweight and interesting speakers for their ‘free’ Art 13 talks (Wang Wei, Ramin Salsali, Charlotte Cotton, Don and Mera Rubell and others) as well as organising various Art 13 Performances, Art 13 Tours, and Art Outside, an annual event bringing works by both emerging and established contemporary sculptors to the outside of the Fair. It sounds like they’ve been working hard to create a world-class event to me!
For those of you that have the time to read on… here is some info about a few of the events within the Art 13 Fair.
