Royal Academy of Arts : Family Workshops
I often wonder how many people out there just don’t realise how much you can get for free from this incredible British institution. You might know that we rate the RA’s family workshops & holiday activities up there in our all time favourite museum days out. The team consistently produce brilliant workshops, aimed at the whole family, with children of all ages, and levels of experience. Their team are always well briefed, incredibly helpful and devoted to you having a great time for as long as you want to stay and work-shop.
RA : The Collection
If you don’t get lucky to join in a workshop, make time to visit and take in a few of the treasures from their collection of British Art ranging from the 18th century to the present day. They exhibit paintings, and sculpture including works by Turner, Gainsborough, Constable, Flaxman, Leighton, Waterhouse, Sargent, Spencer and Hockney.
Summer Exhibition : 10th June to 18th August
The world’s largest open-entry exhibition returns with all the colour and eclecticism it has become famous for. With more than 1,000 works in all styles and media to take in, it’s a wonderful snap shot of international contemporary art featuring high profile and emerging artists side by side.
Highlights include a new large-scale sculpture by Anthony Caro RA, tapestries by Grayson Perry RA and a portraiture room with new works by Frank Auerbach, Tom Phillips RA, Michael Craig-Martin RA and Alex Katz.
The Annenberg Courtyard features a shimmering, metallic ‘wall-hanging’ across the façade by artist El Anatsui and large carved stone sculptures by the artist John Maine RA.
