In 1988 a group of cartoonists, collectors and lovers of the art form came together as The Cartoon Art Trust with the aim of founding a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, promoting and preserving the best of British cartoon art.
Based very near The British Museum in Bloomsbury, the museum runs events and workshops for schools & colleges, families, children and adults. The classroom can also be booked for children’s birthday workshops. There is also a library of 5,000 books on comics and cartoons which is available for research purposes by appointment.
Every year the Cartoon Museum invites young budding cartoonists to compete in the Cartoon Art Trust’s Young Cartoonist Competition. There are two categories – under-18s and under-30s. The winners are invited to the Cartoon Art Trust annual fundraising and awards ceremony where they have the chance to rub shoulders with the great and good of the cartoon art world.
A great place for original presents The Cartoon Museum Shop stocks more than 900 books on the history of cartoons and comic-strips, graphic novels and children’s books, and a range of cards, posters, prints and cartoon-related novelty gifts.
As well as the monthly family drop in weekend workshops (listed on the events diary over there…) they are running a 2014 Easter workshop schedule, get booking now and email firstname.lastname@example.org so you don’t miss out.
