Things To Do for London Kids this Weekend 7/8th June 2014

Weekend Weather :

This weekend looks to be the sort that we can handle, warm starting at 16 degrees (check here for more updates), feeling like 16 degrees and rising to 22 degrees with variable cloudiness.

Out of Town :

There are lots of things to do if you fancy a trip out of town. How about a visit to one of English Heritages whispering Castles or Palaces here where knights can swing their swords merrily, and those with ponies and scooters that need a test drive, will be more than happy. Or, the best fish and chips and a paddle down in Whitstable. This Kent seaside town is retaining its reputation as a place to attract real foodies, families and stylish couples. If you plan ahead you can take Grandma to babysit, and book yourself into one of the many fab restaurants, which are always listed as the places to go by food journo’s and chefs alike. Choose from The Sportsman or Seasalter, Jojo’s tapas on Tankerton Slopes.  Take a short drive and head out for a good old stomp in the park or the woods, this has to be by far one of the most relaxing things you can do after a week at your desk, kitchen and will revive the kids after watching Frozen all day long.

Staying in Town :

Be brave, take your towel and swimmers, and get out early to one of the wonderful Lidos in town, or play around in the exciting Fountains in and around central London. All kids love bugs, beasties and getting dirty so you could check out a drop in activity or just a walk around a nature reserve or the one of towns wonderful playgrounds.

Staying at Home :

If you need a few ideas to entertain the kids whilst you cook lunch, or read the paper (?!?) how about checking out a few games on these educational websites, or get them to make a balloon hovercraft here. The could also practise their penguin illustration for that book they are writing, draw the birds they see out of the window with inspiration from Finch & Robin and the RSPB here and really ‘be at one with nature’ and pull off a feathery craft project here.

Why not get ahead of the pack and make a DIY Fathers day card, check out the World Book Day website for loads of fun games, and video clips from their favourite authors or printables. An easy peasy but fun project is for the kids to make their own I Can Do Everything book and a sunshine hand-print card  or a hand-print calendar for Grandma/Grandpa at the same time. The play doh, fimo or clay lovers can start their family of creations with inspiration from Kroktak here.

Crafty Kids :

For the kids that are safe and happy with a sewing kit, they could get going on a couple of projects like the super cute teddy bear sleeping bag or the zip up purse or the very cool book cover with it’s own jacket (hide your old jeans though).
